Maintain distance immediately as the fight starts. As soon as you see the boss jump upward, move near him and avoid the wheel attack by sliding toward him. You can also block that attack, provided your weapon has the block ability. Then, you can land a few hits and immediately move away again. When the boss runs sideways across the screen, you can jump over him to avoid damage.
