It is the slow-paced combat, availability of life gems for healing, and that make Dark Souls 2 : scholar of the first sin stands out more compared to other games in the series for me. Dark Souls 2 does have issues, such as weapons breaking faster, the enemies that often attack in groups, and certain poor level designs. It is the easiest game in the Souls trilogy for me. There are enough weapons and armors, as well as a decent variety of enemies, that keep things entertaining.
Most of the bosses are fun. Because the gameplay is not too fast, parrying and dodging are easier. The graphics are nice, and some of the visuals look both artistic and realistic. The audio is excellent, Majula’s theme is some of the best music in the entire Souls series. The enemies stop respawning in this game after you kill them a certain number of times. This can really help while you go through the same areas again, while it also means that you cannot grind. There are a few ways to pass this. You can either join the covenant of the champions, which enables the enemies to respawn indefinitely, or help other people via multiplayer to grind.
The introduction of life gems adds much-needed extra healing options in the game. You can keep buying them. Some of the levels are horrible, which include invincible enemies that you can see but cannot lock on to, which makes them very annoying. One of the DLCs in particular has some of the worst level design in the entire series. But the game also features stylish armor design. The game sports excellent combat, which has a solid, stable feel, unlike the weightless feel of Dark Souls 3’s combat. Overall, the game continues the same type of storytelling, but the setting is slightly different. Dark Souls 2 is more approachable and enjoyable to me because of the points mentioned above; the difficulty does not feel harsh until later parts. But for the most part, Dark Souls 2 is the best game in the Dark Souls trilogy for me.
