Onimusha: Way of the Sword

I have finished the recently expanded demo for Onimusha: Way of the Sword, and it feels fantastic. The combat is highly satisfying, matching the excellent quality of the graphics, audio, and atmospheric setting. The story is quite intriguing, though it is worth noting that you do not actually play as a character named Onimusha—that is a legendary title given to the hero. The gameplay relies heavily on tight dodging, parrying, and blocking, where absorbing blue souls helps you recover magic power and yellow souls allow you to restore vitality.

Built on Capcom's RE Engine, the game looks absolutely spectacular and delivers flawless visual performance. The mountainous landscape—complete with lush forests, ancient temples, and massive Buddha statues—strongly reminds me of Wuchang: Fallen Feathers and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Furthermore, while the exploration gives off slight Lords of the Fallen vibes, the otherworldly traversal into the Dark Realm is a classic mainstay that has always defined the Onimusha series.

The demo features several boss fights. They give you a better idea of the core gameplay mechanics. The normal enemies do provide a challenge, as they can attack well in a group. Combat is very satisfying and enjoyable. What I have enjoyed most, besides the gameplay, is the setting. That is why I have pre-ordered the game. This has been my Onimusha: Way of the Sword Demo Impressions & Review.
